March 28,2013

On March 19, 2013, Mr. Kimitaka Mori was elected as the new Chairman and President of JICPA for 2013-2016. 

Mr. Mori currently serves as a partner at KPMG AZSA LLC, and will succeed Mr. Shozo Yamazaki as the Chairman and President effective July 3, 2013 at the 47^th annual general meeting.

He has served as an executive board member (2001-2010) and a deputy president (2010-2013) of JICPA, and has been involved in the area of quality control.

The appointment of deputy presidents and executive board members for 2013-2016 will be announced in July.

The survey of audit engagements of financial statements was conducted based on the summary reports of audit engagements submitted by audit firms by November 30, 2012. The survey covers the audits of financial statements for the fiscal year ended March 2012. The results include the numbers of personnel involved, the hours spent, and audit fees, broken down by revenue scale and by industry.

The report is available only in Japanese.

The Committee on Accounting Guidelines for Small and Medium-sized Entities (established by JICPA, the Japan Federation of Certified Public Tax Accountants' Associations, the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Accounting Standards Board of Japan (ASBJ)) amended, and released on February 22, 2013, "The Accounting Guidelines for Small and Medium-sized Entities (2012 edition)."

This year's amendments were minor, with some changes in wording to make the guidelines easier to understand for the users in small and medium-sized entities.

The guidelines are available only in Japanese.

On March 5, 2013, JICPA held a meeting with Mr. Fayezul Choudhury, who assumed the role of IFAC CEO on February 1, 2013 and discussed issues related to IFAC and JICPA activities.
